For Wimarshana Mario (27), it all started in College at an interact talent show. His father got him his first keyboard when he was 10 years old and a family member helped him find his way around the keys. He recalls the days when he would stay over at his relative’s house for a whole school holiday to learn the keyboard chords. Those days have paid off as the young artist recently released an album titled “Lucid Dream” with more music in the pipeline.

Educated at Trinity College he lives in Kandy and has dabbled with the Eastern side of music as well – performing  in the Kandyan dancing group playing drums in school. His family is his biggest fan base with his younger sister eager to listen to his songs and his dad who held on to music with explicit lyrics like Tupac in his locker for two years, his journey has into music was nurtured at home.

Elaborating on artiste’s rights he said  “we don’t have a proper law for artiste rights in Sri Lanka. No proper record label which truly invests in artistes. Most of the musicians tend to do a song for the market. That’s why still the old Sinhala songs are the best. We should have an established record label in the country which follows the rules and regulations. There are a lot of talented artistes who are stuck in one place.”
