Sujeewa Paththinisekara’s theatrical production ‘Api Narakai Thamai’ based on Lily Axtors German play “Violin, Cello, Double Bass” is to be staged at 7.00 pm on June 16 at Namel Malini Punchi Theatre, Borella.

The original play was the effort of a German playwright to show satirically and symbolically the consequences of separation of parents on children. This play brings out the internal sufferings of the parents and a child. The oppression, the attachments among them and how they are severed are analyzed in deep, leaving a question before society, or else leaves something to be taken away by the spectators.

The writer is trying to bring out the anger and sorrow through the main characters, father, mother and Paula, and the director is trying to show the same by actions, for which he uses colours, music and lighting.

Starring Vishaka Jayaweera, Nelum Kurugalaarchchi, Sujeewa Pathinisekara, Kavindu Bandara, Asha Perera and Dulan Maduranga, the music is by Vindake Weerasingha and makeup by Nelum Kurugalaarchchi.

Translation is done by Jayalath S. Gomes, set, costume and lighting is by M. Safeer. The play was also supported by Inter Act Art, a theatre group which works on promoting theatre.

The playwright Sujeewa Paththinisekara was grateful to M. Safeer and theInter ActArt encouraging him to direct the play.
