The Way to Amarillo – A musical extravaganza will come alive on the 7th of April at the Bishop’s College Auditorium.

Produced by the Amarillo School of Music, the show features the school’s own students; their ages ranging from as young as five to well, young as 60.

The Amarillo School of Music was established in 2007 by Dharshan Wijesooriya, himself a well known figure in entertainment industry. Borne out of a love for music and the drive to encourage people of all ages to take an interest in learning music, the school has thrived over the years to become one of the leading Music Schools in Sri Lanka. Amarillo has a student body of 300 with 18 trainers at the helm, the school teaches a wide range of instruments; Piano, Organ, Guitar, Drums, Conga, Bongo, Violin, Saxophone, Clarinet and Flute. They also conduct speech and drama and voice training classes.

The Way to Amarillo is the school’s annual musical production. It’s a wonderful opportunity for the students to showcase their talents and it’s also a unique experience for them to work together as a diverse collective.

This year’s show is the biggest to date, comprising 30 separate performances. These featured performances will be varied in style and include such items as orchestral  performances, instrumental solos, instrumental and vocal group performances, drum fusions, theatrical performances and of course lots and lots of singing.

Audience can expect new songs such as Rihanna’s ‘Unfaithful’ Adele’s ‘Rolling in the deep’, Shawn Mendes’s ‘Mercy’ as well as old but very popular songs such as ‘Mamma Mia’  and ‘Heaven is a place on Earth’.

For those who love classical music, students will play piano pieces such as Aragonaise, Venetian Boat Song, Starlight Waltz  and Mozart’s  Turkish March.

To change the mood we have included a medley of popular Sinhala Songs sung by the adult students.

Choreography is done by Michelle Mortier and the MC will be Arun Dias Bandaranaike.

Rehearsals for the show have been going on since last November and as the event date draws to a close the excitement is building up among the performers and trainers alike.

The Way to Amarillo is a show that will delight audiences of all ages; so be sure to bring your friends and family and enjoy an evening of music on the 7th of April at the Bishop’s College Auditorium.
