The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) will be the largest local government body with 66 members to be elected from 47 Wards, under the new system of elections, according to the Delimitation Report (DR) that demarcated borders and allotted the number of members for each local authority.

The CMC will consist of 31 single-member and 16 multi-member wards, according to the gazette issued by Local Govt. Minisetr Faiszer Musthapha. Multi-member Wards in Colombo include Mattakkuliya, Modera, Maradana and Thimbirigasyaya which will have between two to three members.

The Karainagar Pradeshiya Sabha in the Jaffna District, with six wingle-member Wards will be the smallest local authority.

The nearly-700-page report lays down the boundaries for each of the Wards, as well as the number to be returned from each of them.

Elections to local authorities have been postponed for more than a year, due to the delay in the release of the Delimitation Report.
