Industry awards help local firms to improve quality, performance and ensure ethical production

Winning a top award at the 2016 Achievers’ Competition conducted by the Ceylon National Chamber of Industries (CNCI) helps a company to profile its success to all their stakeholders including the board of directors.

At the launch of the CNCI Achiever Awards 2017 held in Colombo last week, the Gold Award Winner of Achiever Awards 2016 – Link Products (Pvt) Ltd was given the opportunity to speak about the experience of getting the Gold Award and the effectiveness as a competitor and the above comment was made by Tharanga Perera, Factory Manager, Link Products.

The Achiever Awards 2017 is scheduled to be held on August 17, 2017 at Hotel Galadari.

Continuing Mr. Perera said that the CNCI has established a stringent and diverse criteria in the awards competition for companies to comply with to measure the basic areas, the areas of which are frequently discussed in the board room – things like financial situation of the organisation, industrial details, productivity, corporate planning, environmental standards, corporate social responsibility, etc.

Link is a private company that manufactures herbal Ayurveda pharmaceuticals, personal care and wellness products conforming to the national and international standards with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, HACCP and CMP certification. The manufacturing facility, he said, employs a highly competent workforce.

He said that they have learnt so much through the competition – things like value, efficacy, quality, accountability, etc among other things. Today, the corporate environment is highly competitive and thus an organisation has to continuously develop to be competitive and ahead of other competitors in the industry.

By joining the awards competition Link was able to understand all the intricate points to improve and provided an opportunity to identify itself of the power of excellence and also it gave a guideline to raise the benchmark of the industry. He said, “It gave us an opening to broaden our expertise to ensure a good performance and be in the correct platform to compet”.

Thinthaka S. Lokuhetty, Secretary, Ministry of Industry and Commerce, speaking at the event said that in today’s context there are tremendous opportunities for innovative and creative entrepreneurs with the freedom to enjoy  the achievements of science and technology of the world. Micro level enterprises should move forward in the correct space and time and in this respect to promote them, the trade chambers have a great role to play.

Tissa Seneviratne, Chairman, CNCI said the chamber CNCI was established in 1960 and is now in its 57th year while the Achiever Awards have been conducted for the 17th consecutive year. He said that industrialists in the country have a big role to play in the country’s economy and to explore opportunities to increase exports of Sri Lankan manufactured products.
