The 36th edition of the Sri Lanka Senior National Squash Championships, organized and conducted by Sri Lanka Squash (SLS) is being worked off from December 17 to 20 at the Tamil Union Squash Courts Complex in Colombo.

Cynosure of all eyes will be on Mihiliya Methsarani, the defending champion, who ended her Junior National career with five consecutive championship titles last month.

Methsarani’s remarkable feat was winning the Senior National Championships on three back to back occasions during the past three years.

This year’s four-day tournament is powered by the Vipro Enterprises (Pvt) Limited, the sole distributor of Yardley London products in Sri Lanka.

The final matches of the both Men’s Open and Women’s Open, will be played on December 20 (Tuesday) at the Tamil Union Squash Courts Complex commencing from 5.00 pm onward.

All the other top ranked players including the winner of last Senior National Champion, Ranidu Laksiri, who have already won three consecutive titles.

A fighting encounter is expected between this year’s Junior National Champion Shamil Wakeel, who won a bronze medal at the last South Asian Games held in India this year and the defending champion Ranidu Laksiri, who beat him in straight three sets last year.

Over 102 players are playing under eight categories – Men’s open, Women’s Open, Men’s Over 35 (intermediate), Masters Over 45, Veteran Over 50, Veteran Over 55, Men’s Novices and Women’s Novices.     (SJ)
