Janith Presanna (16), a student of Katugahena MMV, Matugama, was riding pillion with another friend on a motorcycle, going to his friend’s place to study, the day before the GCE (O/L) exam, when he died in an accident, a coroner’s court inquiry was told.

A bull crossed the road in the dark and knocked the speeding bike. The pillion rider without a helmet was thrown to the ground hitting his head on a rock.

Janith Presanna’s father, Hewage Karunadasa, an SLPA Works Supervisor, giving evidence before the Coroners’ Court said that, the mother had left the family and his son had been going to a friend’s place to study for the O/L, and was to return the following morning.

The father had received a telephone call at midnight saying his son had met with an accident while riding the bike and was taken to Colombo National Hospital.

JMO Colombo, Dr Mrs Ratnayake conducted the postmortem and certified death as accidental due to profuse bleeding and damage to the skull. Coroner ordered police to produce the student who rode the bike, for Court inquiry.
