PACE Institute, a professional education academy in  Pannipitiya has devised a training module to impart social skills of youths which is one of the main factors for getting and retaining a job, the head of the institute revealed.

Every employer wants to recruit youths with a specific set of skills that are necessary to perform a particular job. But beyond these job-specific technical skills, social skills are also sought by employers, Sajith de Silva CEO/ Director of the institute told Business Times.

PACE helps job-seekers to improve their skills through training, professional development, or obtaining coaching and mentoring from trainers at the institute, he disclosed.

The institute is going beyond the conventional methods and provides the students with a wider variety of expertise and aptitudes than mere credentials, he pointed out.

‘PACE’ bestows on students the prospect of obtaining an overall job knowledge, experience and exposure combined with soft skills, values, and a refined personality which are undoubtedly the most preferred talents and competencies in the corporate sector.

Properly directed practical training programmes of the institute will help students realize and unearth their hidden talents, ambitions, motives and career agendas in a variety of fields, he added.

Parents need to assist in cultivating an ideological shift in children from their formative years; he said adding that family discussions regarding the future career of their children need to change if youth perceptions are to change. Mr. de Silva stressed the need to mould youths from an early age by getting them to focus on job-oriented education and training and use their innate talent and strengths to lead a successful life. He noted that the training module of  PACE is aimed at directing students towards a professional education path.
