Director of the Mango Tree and Jak Tree restaurants Crish Panchal along with a friend Upasna Satwani have together launched Karat – an ethnic and fusion wear studio with clothes ranging from Bollywood glamour to casual everyday chic.

Stocked with ethnic, formal, semi-formal, indo-western and contemporary clothing , Karat also has accessories, handbags and an intricate collection of jewellery.

The kurtis and tunics in store carry unusual Indian prints and modern cuts and in this lies Karat’s appeal. The charming studio also offers reasonably priced eastern and western wear with strong North Indian influences.

At a glamorous evening where she formally launched Karat, Crish entertained guests with a fashion show by Brian Kerkoven and a delectable array of Indian treats .

“We believe that there is a formidable demand for North Indian clothing that has not yet been fulfilled in Colombo and therefore we hope to satisfy this. Karat clothing is on par with the latest fashion trends in India,” she said.
