Three plays by the Somalatha Subasinghe Play House at ASSITEJ Asia meeting

The Somalatha Subasinghe Play House, ASSITEJ (International Association of Theatre for Children and Youth) Sri Lanka Centre, the University of the Visual and Performing Arts and Sri Lanka Convention Bureau have jointly organised the ASSITEJ Asia meeting to be held in Colombo from August 18-21. Sixteen delegates from ASSITEJ Asian centres are to take part in this event.

The meeting will comprise three main events: A two-day conference on August 18 and 19 at Monara Restaurant, Sri Lanka Hotel School Building; A networking programme with artists, students and academics will be held at the University of the Visual Performing Arts on the 20th from 9 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. and a three-day theatre festival will be held at Lionel Wendt Theatre from August 19 – 21, presented by the Somalatha Subasinge Play House.

The plays are:

August 19 – Punchi Apita Dan Therei (We know it now) &Thoppi Velenda (The hat seller)

August 20 – Vikurthi (Distortion)

August 21 – Dutu Thena Allanu (Wanted)

The International Association of Theatre for Children and Youth (ASSITEJ) was established in 1965 aimed at forming an international alliance of professionals involved in theatre for children and youth. It facilitates worldwide access and the exchange of ideas and cultural traditions. There are 83 national centres globally including in Sri Lanka.
