Saunders will meet Renown in the curtain raiser of the Dialog Champions League 2016, played on June 24 at the Race Course Grounds — kick-off at 4.00p.m.

The championship will be continued on June 25 with three matches and four matches is scheduled to be played on the following day.

The tournament structure has been reduced from 22 teams to 18 teams and the teams have been divided into two teams. In Group A, Blue Star SC Kalutara, Civil Security SC, Colombo FC, Crystal palace FC Gampola, Matara City SC, Negombo Youth SC, SL Army SC, Solid SC Anuradhapura, Up Country Lions Nawalapitiya.

In Group B Java Lane SC, New Youngs SC Wennapuwa, Renown SC, Saunders SC, Air Force SC, Navy SC, Police SC, Super Sun SC, Thihariya Youth SC.

Colombo FC are the defending champions.

Sri Lanka’s most prolific sponsor of sports, Dialog Axiata, will sponsor the Champions League conducted by the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) for a record eleventh year in 2016, with 18 teams competing for the crown this year.

The four top teams from two groups will then be featured in the ‘Super 8’ stage played on a league basis to determine the Winner. The 2016 edition of the Dialog Champions League will feature 100 matches, whilst over 60 referees and 50 officials will be engaged in conducting the games. Colombo FC champions of last year emerged by beating Sri Lanka Army SC.
