One of the worst disasters in the three-week flood and landslide havoc is seen in this picture of Saliyawewa paddy fields in the Puttalam District. Some 700 acres of paddy cultivation and its whole harvest have been washed away together with the fertile soil also while a dejected farmer looks at the remains of their livelihood, which has been turned into rock and clay.
