On Saturday, May 28, the girls of Methodist College – young and not so young will join together in celebration of a unique milestone, the school’s 150th anniversary which is being celebrated this year.

The Metho Walk, titled ‘Sparkle’ begins at 6.30 a.m. from the school premises, and the walkers will head along Dharmapala Mawatha, turn right at Red Cross building, pass SLTA and the Museum and turn right again onto Independence Avenue. From there they will cross Maitland Place to get onto Vidya Mawatha near SSC and turn left near NIBM ending up at the DS Senanayake College grounds.

Methodist College Colombo has the distinction of being the oldest school for girls in Colombo. Founded in 1866 by Catherine Scott, a Methodist Missionary, the school has progressed a great deal to become today, a much sought after, multi-ethnic and multi-religious institution, where not only academic and extracurricular activities are encouraged, but also values like humility and simplicity are inculcated.

Those who wish to join the Walk are expected to buy the 150th anniversary  souvenir T’ shirt  (sponsored by MAS Active, with Textured  Jersey  Lanka PLC coming in as a subsidiary sponsor). This will also provide FREE entry for the Fun Fair which follows the Walk. Others may purchase an entrance ticket.  Old Girls wishing to reserve a seat in the open- top double- decker bus, are requested to contact the OGA committee.  Vintage cars, promotional floats and other vehicles can join the procession at a special rate. Cyclists are free

There will be a Fun Fair at the grounds with a DJ, bouncers, rides, face painting and photobooth, and of course plenty of food and trade stalls.  Those wishing to operate food/ trade stalls or display promotional material like banners are requested to contact the school regarding payments.

Daily Mirror and the Sunday Times are the Print Media sponsors for the Metho Walk while Yes FM and MTV (Channel One) are the electronic media sponsors of the event.  All proceeds are towards the 150th anniversary building, a four storey Middle School block which will replace the Restarick bungalow.

Methodist College invites all those who belong to the Metho family to join in and celebrate this anniversary year.
