The 8th Sri Lanka Islamic Banking & Finance (SLIBI) Conference to be held on Tuesday, May 17 is expected to cover new ground and from a fresh perspective.  UTO EduConsult (Pvt) Ltd, the organisers, said the event at the Ramada Colombo Hotel will see new players discussing contemporary issues with some of the veterans of the industry in a series of panel discussions.  These would cover most of the latest developments in the industry, not least of which would be the Sukuk, which has gained fresh momentum as a result of the recent Budget speech by the Minister of Finance, in which the subject enjoyed special mention.  Islamic banking’s contribution to the overall economy would also be discussed, whilst the increasing importance of managing risk, marketing and new product development, and the issue of intellectual capital, are some of the discussions that would feature prominently.  This year’s programme is under the theme “Convergence towards Common Goals”.
