The De Lanerolle Brothers have a knack for making one forget that it isn’t the weekend. Amid the buzz of conversation over well presented dinner plates, the DLBs made a dramatic entrance at the first of their tri annual concerts on April 5. Live VII as it was called, marked seven years as a duo for the brothers.

Doors flung open at the Hilton Colombo’s ballroom as the entertainers made their way through their audience to reach the stage before starting the evening off with familiar numbers. Swaying and singing along with the always obliging pair, the audience was only interrupted when the performers announced that one of their fans in the crowd had just popped the question. The successful proposal lifted the already high spirits in the room which was treated to the Brothers’ repeat performance of the auspicious number.

It was applause all-round when Rukshan Perera’s original composition for Sri Lankan children was performed. Titled ‘One Child at a Time’ the gripping lyrics rendered in the powerful opulence of the Brothers’ tones had previously been sung,  in New Orleans.

Equally powerful was their version of the concert’s theme song, the Whitney Houston classic- One Moment In Time. Incorporating the audience’s choice, the menu included a list of popular songs available on request.

A smooth dinner service, complementary to the heavy serving of quality music and a few jokes at the expense of Rohan’s lack of hair made for an evening any DLB fan would find enjoyable.
