My library
My library is a very unusual one. It is not like other libraries. My books are divided and put into three separate boxes. Fairytales and classics like ‘Oliver Twist’, ‘Sleeping Beauty’, ‘Cinderella’, ‘Snow White’, ‘Beauty and the Beast’, ‘Red Riding Hood’ etc., are put in a small cardboard box which is nearly bursting now!
Novels like ‘Anne’s House of Dreams’, ‘Those Dreadful Children’, ‘The Famous Five’ and many other are put into a huge cardboard box. It is always messy though I do tidy it once in a way.
All the schoolbooks I have finished are put into an enormous cardboard box. I also have school books which my cousins used when they were small.
The Fairytale box (that’s what I call the box where I put all the fairytales and classics) is kept on top of my cupboard while the school book box and the novel box are kept in my aunt’s room. I know that my ‘library’ is odd but that what I’m used to!

Story of Grey Hair

A cute little girl,
once walked up to her mum,
who was busy in the kitchen.
She looked up at her,
cleared her throat and sweetly asked,
“Mama, why do you have some
grey strands in your hair?”
The mum paused, looked at the little girl
and replied,
“Every time you disobey,
I get one strand of grey hair.
If you want me to stay pretty,
you better obey.”
Mama then quickly returned to her task.
The girl stood there thinking,
cleared her voice once again.
“Yes?” the mama replied.
“Why is grandma’s hair all grey?”

The day I set foot on the moon
My Uncle James is a scientist working at NASA. He and I got an invitation from NASA to visit the moon. We were to carry out some tests. So my uncle and  I got prepared to go to the moon on July 21, 2013.

We took off in ARROW 168 code-named ‘Vulture’. First I felt a bit scared but after a few seconds I wasn’t. On our way to the moon, we saw the Milky Way. It was a glorious sight. It took us a day to land on the moon.

After a day, we saw the moon. It looked like a big, round ball. Then we landed on it. We all wore our spacesuits and oxygen tanks which were enough for four hours. When we all landed we were all floating on the moon as there was less gravity.
I felt scared and I remembered my parents. Then we hoisted the Sri Lankan flag. I explored around and found no living beings. It was dark and empty.

I took lots of photos and collected some moon stones. Then it was time to go back home. After a day, we landed back in Sri Lanka. We were greeted by reporters, cameramen and my family. We were on television and became very famous.

I shared everything that happened with my family and friends. That was an unforgettable experience for me.

My village
My village is Galayaya. It is situated in the Pannala area. It takes four hours to reach Colombo from Galayaya. There had been lots of rocks in this village and that is how it got its name. The village is quite big and the people live there peacefully.
The majority of them do farming while some of them are engaged in the coir industry. There are beautiful paddyfields, small woody areas, water springs all of which make me enjoy its natural surroundings.
Sri Sudharmarama Vihara with ancient ruins is a place with a historical value. People help each other and we all live in the Galayaya family.
I love my village a lot. I protect and respect my village by my heart.

The Universal Language – Kindness
A magnificent creature ran fast across the dry grass of the Sahara.  It bounded across the scorching land, with its head held high and sunlight glinting off its fur. It catlike face was cruel and ruthless as the deadly tiger leaped towards its prey.

A beautiful African girl, with bangles and bracelets all the way up to her elbow; In her hand, there were two glassy red apples which she had received from a party of tourists. She didn’t seem at all troubled by the fact that a massive and deadly tiger was chasing her. She turned, so that she faced the tiger and held up her hand, gesturing the tiger to stop. Miraculously, the tiger stopped. Something in the little girl’s soft and kind, yet confident expression moved it.

The little girl held out an apple and gestured the tiger to come. The tiger walked softly on its padded feet towards the little girl and took the apple in its terrifying jaws and nodded its head, conveying a ‘thank you’. It turned away and within seconds, disappeared into the horizon.

The little girl smiled, turned away and proceeded towards her home.
