The Maldives Government says it has enough evidence against the 27 year old Sri Lankan national they have been holding in custody since November last year in connection with an assassination attempt on the life of the country’s President Abdulla Yameen.

Maldives Minister of Legal Affairs Uza Azima Shakoor told reporters in Colombo Friday that the man has been allowed access to lawyers and regular counsellor visits and the extent of his involvement in the assassination plot will only be revealed once investigations into it are completed.

“A report on the incident will be out soon,” she added.

It is alleged that the man was hired to assassinate the President even though his family members deny his involvement in any such incident.
