Former Minister A.M.S Adhikari passed away yesterday morning at a private hospital in Colombo. He was 80 years old. Hailing from Kalawewa in the Anuradhapura District, he entered Parliament in 1974. As a senior member of the United National Party (UNP) led government he held many portfolios including Minister of Posts and Telecommunications and Minster of Tourism.

During his time as a parliamentarian he is credited to have initiated development programmes in Eppawala,Thambuththegama, and Galnewa areas. He is survived by three daughters and son. His body is lying at his residence in Kohuwela. Funeral details would be announced later, the family said.
