Indian army chief, Pakistani naval delegation in Colombo on goodwill mission

The Indian Army Chief General Dalbir Singh will arrive in Colombo this evening with a high powered delegation on a five day visit and will call on President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and the commanders of the three forces.

The army chief who fought along with the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) deployed in 1987 in the Northern region will be visiting Mullaitivu and Galle during his visit.

The Indian army commander will be accompanied by his wife, while the delegation comprises a major general, colonel and captain.

Coinciding with the Indian army chief’s visit, a Pakistan Navy ship is also scheduled to arrive tomorrow. It will be berthing at the Colombo Port till December 3.

Navy spokesperson Captain Akram Alavi said this was a customary goodwill visit carried out like any other country’s navy fleet to share naval diplomacy in the Indian ocean.

When the Pakistan Navy Ship PNS Shamsheer, an antisub marine frigate arrives at the Colombo Port on Monday, Mission Commander, Commodore Bilal Abdul Nasir and Captain Syed Rizwan Khalid will pay courtesy calls on the Commander of the Navy, Director General Operations and Commander Western Naval Area.
