MAS Intimates won the Women’s Division ‘A’ championship

Commercial Credit and Finance and MAS Intimates emerged champions in the Men’s and Women’s ‘A’ divisions at the Mercantile Table Tennis Association organised and conducted Knockout Table Tennis Championships 2015 concluded at the S. Thomas’ College Indoor Stadium tables last weekend.

In the Men’s ‘A’ Division finals Commercial Credit and Finance Plc scored a 3-1 victory over MAS Intimates and in the Women’s ‘A’ Division MAS Intimates had things of their own to beat Seylan Bank 2-0.

A total of 46 teams from 19 mercantile establishments took part in this year’s championship in Men’s and Women’s categories.

MAS Intimates paddlers took the limelight in this tournament finishing runners-up in the Men’s ‘A’ and ‘C’ divisions and winning the Women’s ‘A’ championship.

True sportsmanship and highest traditions of the game was maintained right throughout the tournament where two veterans, who did yeoman service to the game, were felicitated at the conclusion of the tournament.

Commercial Credit, the Men’s A Division winners

Old Royalist and double international Rajiva Wijetunga for his dedicated service to the Mercantile Table Tennis Association as president and as a player who is still participating in veterans games and Wasantha Perera, who called it a day at the completion of 35 years in Mercantile TT.

Chameera Ginige, Sukitha Wickremanayake, Pubudu Channaka, R.E. Egodage and K.W. Ajith Keerthi represented the Men’s ‘A’ Division champs and Women’s ‘A’ Division winners MAS Intimates were represented by Srimali Wimalaratne, Kalpani Herath and Upeka Kotinkaduwa.
