‘Sky Pavilion’: Clouds for company

View(s):

Kandy though is a busy city, it is an arguably the best place for a hideout. Sky Pavilion, the latest hotel with a bird’s eye view, is a newest hideout located within the city limit of Kandy.

Nestled on a hillock at Talwatta off Hewaheta Road just five minutes drive from the Kandy town centre, Sky Pavilion is an elevated den for adventure lovers.

Over looking the breathtaking 180 degree view of Mahaweli Ganga from Polgolla Dam to Thennekumbura Bridge, Knuckles Mountain range from the North and fertile Dumbara Valley to the East, Sky Pavilion creates one of the best panoramic views in the District.

Located just two km from the Maligawa, Sky Pavilion is a six level lean luxury building built against a high rock face.

The luxury villa is designed to maximise the advantages of the elevation, creating a magical space that gives a feeling of being up among the clouds, hence the tagline, ‘Clouds for company’.

It offers four architecturally differently designed luxury rooms on the two top floors.

The four bedrooms are different from each other in size and the amenities they offer. Each room has its unique character and their own particular advantages.

Each room is named after a star constellation, in keeping with the Sky Pavilion theme’ said Prashanthi Weragoda, one of the partners of the project.

Owned and operated by Thivanka Jayakody and his wife Prashanthi, Sky Pavilion started in August 2014 as a family vacation home.

All four rooms – Andromeda, Cygnus, Aquila and Ankaa are well-designed and are equipped with A/c, hot water, rain showers and hairdryers.

Mini fridge, locker, tea/coffee making facilities, piped music and Wi-Fi access are other conveniences available in the rooms. There are two adjoining rooms on the lower top level.

Two rooms on the upper level open out to the Sky Deck. Common to all rooms are the stunning views spanning over 180 degrees, accessible from large glass panel windows.

Andromeda is a spacious and comfortably furnished room which can be used as a triple room. It’s also ideal for a family. The room was named for the Andromeda constellation. Cygnus is the name given to the luxurious double room on the 1st Level.

The well-appointed room breathes romance and intimacy. It features a glass-partitioned bathroom with an outdoor tub and ‘his’ and ‘hers’ vanity counters.

Constellation Cygnus represents the swan form adopted by the amorous Greek God Zeus in his romantic escapades.

Aquila is a double room on the topmost level, opening out to the sky deck, featuring a large writing desk and spacious attached bathroom.

The room is very private and would even be suitable for a working holiday. Ankaa is the other comfortable double room that opens out to the Sky Deck at the top-most level of the villa.

‘Our meals are kept simple and satisfying. Being a small establishment makes it easy to cater to each guest’s personal preference.

Always we cater to guest’s requirement and his likings. We have an open kitchen and guests participation in cooking is always welcome’ said MD Jayakody.

The menu contains simple Sri Lankan and western dishes. Fresh ingredients are sourced from nearby farmers and local markets.

‘We offer guests with ‘cooking experience’ programme and encourage him to do their own marketing from the Kandy market. We assist them with travelling by a three wheeler’ said Priyantha Peiris, the Manager of the property.

‘The L shaped deck adjoining the lounge for an al fresco dining experience; breakfast or romantic candle-lit dinner under the stars is possible on request.

A barbeque dinner could be served on the deck for groups of six or more’ said Thivanka.

The resort offers a wide range of excursions from two hours to two day trips in and out of the region. Among the attractions, Thewawa at Dalada Maligawa and Botanical Garden takes the lead.

The rates at the Sky Pavilion is ranging from Rs 24,500/-(BBD) to 31,100/- (BBD for family room). The full Villa coasts Rs 93,000/- (BB).
