On Sunday November 1, one hundred lucky dogs and their owners will come together in Sri Lanka’s first ever Canine Carnival, organised by the Ceylon Kennel Club, to be held from 2 p.m. onwards at Excel World.

‘Unleash’ is open to dog-owners and dog-lovers alike and will feature fun activities such as a fancy dress parade and obstacle courses as well as a vet’s corner.

Behind the carnival’s concept is canine behaviourist and trainer, Shirin Merchant, who has been involved in dog training for 18 years and recently received the prestigious International Commendation Award by Kennel Club England’s Kennel Club Accredited Instructor Scheme (KCAI) for her work as a pioneer in dog training and canine behaviour.

“We felt that this is something that all of us lack, especially in Asian countries, ” said the club’s president, Lucille Dahanayake. “To begin with the carnival will be restricted to 100 purebred dogs only, however, the Kennel Club hopes to expand Unleash to include activities for stray dogs in the future.

Registration and entrance to the carnival is free and everyone is welcome to be a part of this fun initiative. To register, call 011 5920339 or 0777344269.
