The Colombo Marathon drew a lot of attention what with the participation of foreign runners and VIPs. There was this particular tent on the Negombo beach front where some top officials had gathered to relax and watch the proceedings. Then came a sudden burst of wind which uprooted the tent and had the officials running for cover. Spotted amongst the runners was this top sports boss. He showed a clean pair of heels and many spectators commented that he too should have taken part in the marathon.

INTERDICTED FOR WHAT?
Now to the most popular sport in the country. This official has been interdicted but he says that he is on annual leave. It is speculated that this official had dealings with a company which deals in intoxicants and had brought the sport body concerned 20 Lakhs in revenue. But only two Lakhs had been received by the sports body. Where had the rest gone? Following information this official was interdicted. Now an inquiry is on.

WHOSE PLAN TO IMPROVE THE SPORT?
This official of a women’s sport was seen at the sport boss’s office where she had forwarded a plan to improve the sport. This sport is quite popular in the country now what with the staging of an Asian event in Singapore last year and the staging of a world event ‘Down Under’ this year. But is the plan to improve the sport really hers? Experts say that she has forwarded another expert’s plans to the sport boss with the hope of currying favour with him and to seek a better post.

THE BOASTER BARED
Now hide your faces. This set of athletes who went to take part in a T&F meet in Malaysia were spotted trying to smuggle in some bottles of popular local intoxicants. The customs officials were very smart and spotted the bottles with ease much to the dismay of the athletes. The chief of this operation has been identified as ‘The Boaster’, in sports circles. This is a case where The Boaster could not do anything about it.

NONE TO OPERATE THE SCOREBOARD
A ground where the sport is played with the willow in the south has gone to the dogs these days. The pitch is neglected and is overgrown with weeds. There are cracks on the walls of the pavilion. The scoreboard is not functioning because there are NO people to operate it, because no one wants to work under these circumstances. What the change in governments can do to this once vibrant ground! It has gone to the Kale.
