August Wind

View(s):

August wind blew gently across the garden, looking around for someone to play with. Then it saw some clothes put out to dry on a  clothes-line. It went near the clothes which smelled fresh and nice. It softly went around the clothes and the clothes started to dance in the breeze. August wind too started to dance with the clothes. “Oh, this is so much fun!” shouted the clothes. “And it’s helping us to dry faster too!” The wind got a bit carried away with these compliments and started to blow a little harder.

The clothes, at first enjoyed swinging this way and that way. But soon August wind got a bit out of control. It started pulling the clothes harder and soon some of the pegs got removed. A shirt and a skirt came off the clothes-line and fell on the ground.

“Stop! Stop!” shouted the other clothes struggling in the wind. “Now look at what you’ve done!” shouted the fallen skirt. “We were clean and nice! But now thanks to you we are dirty again,” shouted the shirt lying on the ground. “Yes, now they’ll have to be washed again and if you won’t go away the same will happen to us. So go away!” shouted the other clothes. August wind moved away sadly.

Then the wind saw some trees and went near them. The trees didn’t seem to mind the wind, so the wind started to rustle their leaves. The trees giggled in delight enjoying the soft breeze tickling them. Some trees had flowers and some others had a few raw fruits. August wind touched the soft flower petals of the flowers and took their fragrance around. The trees said, “how wonderful it feels to have August wind around!’

The wind wanted to impress the trees some more. So he started to push the trees making them sway. Then the wind blew harder and harder, removing off a lot of leaves. Although it didn’t mean to, it removed petals off the flowers and even pulled off a few raw fruits throwing them to the ground.

“What are you doing? Stop! Stop!” shouted the trees twisting their branches in anger. “Look at the mess you’ve created!” shouted one tree “The ground  is covered with leaves!” “And you plucked fruits which are not even ripe. What a waste!” shouted another tree.

“All my beautiful flowers are ruined!” wailed another. “Just go away without causing any more damage!” shouted the trees in anger. August wind blew away feeling very miserable.

The wind moved away from the garden thinking, “It looks like no one here likes me!” It blew away up into the sky. August wind saw some pigeons flying in the deep blue sky. The wind slowly went near them and the birds enjoyed the wind which was beneath their wings. “Isn’t this great?” cooed one pigeon, “August wind is carrying us higher!” “I feel like I’m floating!” said another pigeon. “This is indeed a lovely breeze!”

“Looks like I’ve finally found myself some friends!” thought the wind happily. And the pigeons kept on praising the wind for helping them fly. As usual, August wind didn’t know how to handle all these compliments. It just wanted to help the birds to fly higher and hear them say more good things. So it started blowing harder. “What’s this?” shouted the pigeons. “We can’t fly in this gale!” “It’s pushing me back!” shouted one pigeon. “We can’t balance ourselves. We’ll end up injuring ourselves!” shouted another. “Get away from us! Get away from us!” they all started shouting.

And August wind quickly moved away from there. “Why doesn’t anyone like me?” it thought feeling very lonely,
“I only tried to help!”

“Where are you going August wind?” shouted someone. The wind was very surprised and turned around to see who called. There was one bird flying far away. “Why doesn’t he want me to leave?” thought the wind. “Come near me!” said the bird and August wind went closer. As it went closer the sight became clearer. This was not a bird but a kite!

“Why did you call me?” asked the wind sadly, ready to go away if it’s chased. “Because I like having you around. You help me fly higher and there’s nothing I like to do better!”

“But all others chased me away. They said I cause damage!”
“Well, you won’t be dangerous to anyone if you’re careful. If you behave in a controlled manner, I am sure you’d be a wonderful companion!”

The August wind went near the kite and the kite’s tassels dangled in the wind. “You must promise me to be careful.
If you don’t, my string will break and  I’ll get lost in the clouds!” said the kite. “I promise to be very careful!” promised August wind. The wind held the kite very gently and took the kite higher and higher. “See that boy down there pulling the string,” said the kite, “he’s the one who made me. You can see the whole town from up here. Isn’t it a beautiful sight?” “It certainly is!’ agreed the wind.

The wind and the kite enjoyed flying high up towards the clouds. The sight down was breathtakingly beautiful. “August wind, what a wonderful friend you are,” said the kite, “for taking me so high up carefully and for helping me fly this way!” “And kite, what a wonderful friend you are,” said August wind, “for trusting in me and giving me an opportunity to prove myself!”
