“Stress and the Mind”, a workshop organised by the Young Muslim Women’s League (YMWL) will be held on Sunday, October 18 at the Alliance Francaise de Colombo at Barnes Place, Colombo.

Starting at 9 am the workshop will be conducted by Shyama Fuad who is a practising Psychologist at Bridging Borders in Australia.

Ms. Fuad will highlight how one can develop strategies to overcome stress and lowered mood. “Join other women in a women’s only session to share experiences that will increase your level of insight into how you can minimise the risk of stress and mental health problems for yourself, family and friends,” she said in a note released by the organisers.

The workshop will also deal with how to train one’s mind to recognise and manage stress at home, work and in everyday situations; develop an awareness how significant stressors contribute to mood changes and how this affects one’s behaviour and mental wellbeing. All proceeds from the event will go to renovation and refurbishment of the creche for underprivileged children managed by the YMWL at Kirulapone.
