Magnus Bocker, former CEO of the Singapore Stock Exchange had a meeting in Colombo on Monday with Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake on the capital markets, which was labelled as ‘a private meeting’ by the latter.

The Minister on the sidelines of the Fourth Forum of the “Ease of Doing Business” on Thursday asked by the Business Times about the meeting said it was ‘was a private discussion’. However the minister’s website and facebook pages carry a picture of the meeting which is reproduced on page 1.

Sources said that only one stockbroker had attended the discussion. Some others had been invited for the meeting on the phone, but many seniors weren’t aware of it.

The meeting has raised eyebrows for the reasons; that capital markets and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) come under the Prime Minister and not the Finance Ministry.
