A cinematic bridge
Aiming to celebrate independent cinema in the Northern peninsula recovering from the destruction caused by a 30-year-old armed conflict and war an International Cinema Festival (JAFFNAICF) to be held in Jaffna from September 15 to 21.

Organised by Ceylon Theatres and the Department of Fine Arts University of Jaffna in collaboration with Agenda 14, the organisers believe in using art to reach people and they hope this festival would create a space for communities across borders to interact with each other through cinema. Recently released and highly acclaimed films from Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Switzerland and The United Kingdom are to be screened at the festival.
The European Film Festival in Sri Lanka extends their partnership by presenting ‹European Panorama› during the festival too. 45 feature films including 12 debut films in competition will be screened during the festival at Majestic Cineplex at Cargills Square, the Kailasapathy Auditorium University of Jaffna, Public Library Auditorium and the open air theatre of CPA.
Film South Asia Documentary Film Festival will present their travelling festival and over 20 short films will be screened during the first JAFFNAICF too. Discussion Forums, Audience Awards and many more fringe events will be announced soon.
