Eighth seeded Avindra Perera and second seeded Nethmi Waduge emerged the junior nationals tennis champions in the boy’s and girl’s categories while top seeded Medhira Samarasinghe clinched the Under 16 title when they defeated Aadavan Pushparaj, Thisuri Molligoda and Anika Seneviratne in the finals played at the SLTA courts in Greenpath, Colombo yesterday.

Avindra who defeated third seeded Chehan Fernando in the semi-finals the day before was given a fright by the unseeded Aadavan who won the first set, but Avindra undeterred came back to bag the second and third set with ease to clinch the title. In contrast Nethmi who came into the final clash as the hot favourite lived up to her expectations when she coasted to an easy two sets to nil win over third seeded Thisuri to bag the title.

Medhira the top seeded player in the U18 and U16 girls’ category who was beaten in the semi-final of the U18 age group made amends when she bagged the Under 16 title with the minimum of fuss with a comfortable 2-0 win over Anika Seneviratne.
Meanwhile in the other junior final which was completed saw Venuka Kithnula overcome Vichithya Nilaweera 9/1 to take the Under 10 boys title.
