There is a huge inquiry being launched into the sport which is akin to baseball these days. CID officers are raking in all information regarding their expenses. Even the referees are questioned about the payment they receive. In fact those involved in the sport is living a life of agony not knowing when they will be questioned by officers of the law. Has this got to do with the present political trend? Nobody knows but the fear of being questioned at any time regarding the financial dealings of the sport looms larger than ever.

FROM THE COMMENTARY BOX
There is a buzz in a popular sport that old commentators are to be axed giving way to youngsters. One commentator, however, has been maintained because he is a close buddy of a speedster. This speed merchant is a must for the sport because there is a shortage of such bowlers. And so to please the fast bowler, this commentator is holding on to the mike tightly with both hands.

THE OFFICIALS’ WAY
The Under 21 cricket tournament commenced on Friday in a hurry. Players and managers of the participating teams maintain that very short notice was given for the event. Officials who are in charge of the event however are of the opinion that they had given the participating teams’ ample time to prepare for the event. But the game has to go on… the way officials want it.

WIN AT ANY COST
Still on the subject of the sport played by the willow two schools are at logger heads in the southern city of Galle. For three years a big match was not held because one side was always on the losing side and they decided to call off playing the game. Now the team that was on the losing side has started recruiting young players from another school to strengthen their side. This school, is now up in arms saying that if this happens what will happen to their cricket? It is winning at cost for the school that is recruiting cricketers that matters.

DISGRACE
At a top level sports meeting in Lausanne the proposals made by two leading sports bodies had been put into the dust bin. What the officials in Lausanne had to say was that the sports bodies in Sri Lanka have no clue to what they are saying. The sports bodies from Sri Lanka are at the highest level and for their proposals to be thrown out are a disgrace.

THE UNEXPECTED BOMBSHELL
A foreign schools cricket team is currently touring Sri Lanka having paid for all their expenses in advance including umpires fees, ground fees and whatever fees that they might encounter on this tour. However some local officials have put in a bogus claim for expenses of this team. Exasperated officials of the touring team are at a loss as how to encounter this menace! What they were assured before the tour was that all their expenses have been paid in full before coming to Sri Lanka. Now this bombshell!
