The Janakaraliya (Theatre of the People), mobile Theatre Festival is now being performed at Kopiyawaththa, Ichchampitiya grounds in Chilaw. Started on July 24 the festival will go on till August 7 with daily free theatre shows for school children at 9 and at 6.30 pm for the public.

‘Sinhabahu’, the theatrical masterpiece by Prof. Ediriweera Sarachchandra will be staged today, July 26 and the rest of the schedule include ‘Hunuwataya’- the Sinhala version of Bertolt Brecht’s – Caucasian Chalk Circle on July 27, ‘Watoluvo and Uloluvo’, the Sinhala version of Bertolt Brecht’s –‘ Round heads and ‘Pointed heads’ as a new production by Janakaraliya will be staged on July 28,

‘Parasthawa’, the Sinhala version of Anton Chekov’s – The Proposal and ‘Andaramal’ (Flowers of the Barren Land) will be on July 29, ‘Thoppi Welenda’ and ‘Punchi Apata Den Therei’, one of the most popular children’s plays created by late playwright Somalatha Subasinghe on July 30,

On August 1 ‘Parayan’ (The country drummer) the play which won the Best play and 6 other major awards at the State Drama Festival 2015, three short plays created by Janakaraliya ‘Devlowa Gamana’ (Journey to heaven), ‘Bhasha saha Moli’(Tastiest time) and Madhura Yame (Mother tongue) will be staged.

‘Seethambarapata’ (Invisible Cloths) and ‘Andaramal’ (Invisible Cloths) will be staged on August 2, ‘Hunuwataya’ on August 3, ‘Charandas’ winner of the Best Play and 9 other major awards at the State Drama Festival 2006 on August 4, Janakaraliya children’s plays ‘Apooru Padama’ (Wonderful lesson) and ‘Devlowa Gamana’ (Journey to heaven) on August 5, ‘Payanihal’ (Passengers) winner of Best Play and six other major awards at the State Drama Festival and Youth Drama Festival 2012 and ‘Parayan’ (The country drummer) winner of the Best play and six other major awards at the State Drama Festival on August 6 and ‘Charandas’ on August 7.
