The three day warm up match between the Sri Lanka Board President’s XI and the visiting Pakistan side saw the two teams share the honours in the drawn encounter which concluded at the Colts ground yesterday. The final days proceeding saw Pakistan resuming from their overnight score of 27 for 1 going for quick runs ending their innings on 257 for 8 declared and SLBP XI’s in pursuit of a target of 264 runs end the day on 129 for 3.

The Pakistan innings was studded by a knock of 69 inclusive of five boundaries and a six by opener Shan Masood who together with Azhar Ali who made a 48 putting on a valuable 113 runs for the third wicket with right arm spinner Jeffrey Vandersay who ended with a five wicket haul in Pakistan’s first innings making the breakthrough.

The young leg spinner ended the game with impressive figures of 8 for 167. Later useful knocks by skipper Misbah-ul-Haq (29), Younis Khan (35), Asad Shafiq (31 n.o.) and Wahab Riaz (24) helped Pakistan to end their innings on 257 for 9 declared off 69.4 overs.

Sri Lanka Board President’s XI in their run chase was given a solid start by openers Upul Tharanga and Dimuth Karunaratne who together put on 95 before Tharanga retired out having made a 50 off 53 balls with eight boundaries. Karunaratne who failed to make an impression in the first innings made amends as he too made a knock of that included eight boundaries before retiring out having added 25 runs for the second wicket Jehan Mubarak.

Mubarak did not last long as four runs later he was dismissed by right arm pacie Ehsan Adil for 16 before the SLBP XI’s ended their innings on 129 for 3. Pakistan will now travel to Galle to play their first Test match against Sri Lanka at the Galle International Stadium from June 17 to 21.
