Dinushika Dissanayake, lawyer and researcher, has been appointed as the new Executive Director of the Law and Society Trust (LST) with effect from June, taking over from Mala Liyanage who led the organisation since 2010. In a media announcement, LST said Ms. Dissanayake brings a wealth of knowledge and a demonstrated commitment to human rights to her new role.

Admitted to the Bar in 2009, after a short working stint at the Business Times as a journalist, she has experience as a practising lawyer particularly in the appellate courts in Sri Lanka while most recently serving as a Senior Consultant at LST.

She has interned at the Co-Prosecutor’s Office of the Extraordinary Chambers of the Courts of Cambodia under an international fellowship. In addition to a Masters in Law from the New York University Law School, Ms. Dissanayake also completed all the examinations of the Chartered Institute of Management (CIMA) UK and has a Diploma in Journalism from the Sri Lanka College of Journalism. Interestingly, LST’s outgoing Executive Director Ms. Liyanage also had a background in journalism, working for the Sun and Weekend newspapers in the late 1970s.
