Wednesday March 11, 2015 was a very special day for the 84 little girls and boys of WP/Kaduwela Henagama Kanitu Vidyalaya, Malabe. Senali Wittanachchi, a 23rd Colombo Girl Guide donated an Open Air Class Room to the School.
We were greeted by Ms Asha, a Member of the School Staff. The ceremony commenced with the arrival of Ms. Kanthi Fernando, Captain, 23rd Colombo Girl Guides and a former Chief Commissioner, accompanied by
Ms Sulari Jayawardene, Asst. Chief Commissioner and Ms. Wajira Silva, from the Western Province Education Office.
Pansil was observed, followed by an address from the Principal.
Ms. Jayawardene and Silva spoke on the relevance of Senali’s choice for her Project.
The little students entertained the gathering and stationery packs were given to them.
Although this was a small function, it highlighted the true meaning of “to do my duty to my country” and “to help other people at all times,” which symbolizes the service aspect of the Girl Guide Promise.
It also embodies the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts Millennium Development Goal which states “education opens doors to all girls and boys”.
