Sri Lankan Agricultural workers in Israel have been advised to return home on expiry of their visas, Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE)- Deputy General Manager, Mangala Randeniya said.

The move comes following several instances of overstaying visas and of workers absconding from their workplaces.
Mr Randeniya said there are more than 500 vacancies in the Agricultural sector with candidates on the waiting list for appointments in Israel.
“We request the workers and their families to honour their agreement and return, in order to safeguard the job market in Israel, which otherwise would be detrimental to future employment opportunities,” he told the Sunday Times.
He said measures will be taken to resolve the issue, as those absconding from their workplaces have been identified.
