Police probe death of woman (35) and infant hit by train

Kadugannawa police are investigating the death of Thamilselvam Tharushi (35) from Hantanne Estate in Kandy, and her four-month-old infant, who were hit by a train in Pilimatalawa, while on her way to her mother’s house at Alagala Estate, Kadugannawa.

Police are yet to determine whether this was a suicide or the victims were accidentally hit by the rain.

According to police, the woman had stepped on to the tracks when the Badulla-Colombo train was approaching.

The mother died instantly, while the infant succumbed to severe injuries at the Peradeniya Hospital.
Family of the deceased stated that she was mentally disturbed.

However, police are investigating the causes that led to her death.
