The Alumni Association of Gateway College, Kandy, together with the Rotaract Club of Kandy is hosting “RUN” for health awareness, scheduled for Saturday, April 11. Unlike the typical walk or run, the event will be a fun-filled scavenger hunt in which teams of four members can take part. The obstacle-race style hunt will take each team through the city streets of Kandy, from one “check-point” to another, where they will be assigned specific tasks by checkpoint officials. Successful completion of all the tasks entitles the teams to a chance for the grand prize – Rs.30,000.00 in cash.

While some of the tasks set at each checkpoint will be random fun and funny things to do, the focus is on creating awareness on healthy living through the event, so some of the tasks will require a bit of work which include running, jogging, walking and simple exercises – a big part of living healthily. In addition to this, participating teams will be equipped with handbills which they will be required to distribute during the course of the event. Organizers expect that by the end of the day, at least 5,000 people will know something more about diabetes, heart disease, healthy eating and lifestyle habits that can change your biology.

Since awareness is the key focus of the event, organisers have already kicked off “Walk Before the Run”, a strategic awareness campaign spread over various social media platforms including Facebook and Instagram. Organizer are looking out for volunteers, so if you’re interested in helping out, or would like more information, contact them through gatewaykandy.alumni@gmail.com
