“The delegates visited the Toyohashi University of Technology where they had a meeting with Dr. Naohiro Hozumi. The NCE President who was also former Chairman of the Spice Council had, had discussions with Dr. Hozumi earlier at the University of Moratuwa regarding introduction of new technology for the peeling of cinnamon. Dr. Hozumi had expressed interest in technology transfer for this purpose,” an NCE media statement.

It said that the transfer of technology will help resolve the biggest problem faced by the cinnamon industry which is the shortage of skilled labour for peeling. “As these skills are passed from parents to their children, and many youth these days are reluctant to spend long hours in tedious work the industry will face a serious problem for its sustenance,” it said.
