If you’re looking for some new additions to your menu this season, we’ve got two interesting ideas for you to check out.
Eggnog
Not everyone can stomach the idea of gulping down raw eggs. This maybe the reason Eggnog never really took-off in Sri Lanka, that is until now. Nilomi Kurukulasooriya, whose kitchen is where all the goodies from the Foodie Colombo are made, is serving eggnog this year.
Sharing the sentiment of disgust with many at the prospect of downing raw eggs however Nilomi assures that eggnog bears “no apparent trace of raw egg.” She even got away with serving it to an aunt who positively despises raw eggs.

One of Nilomi’s hobbies has been experimenting with recipes and the non-alcoholic eggnog was one of those that ended well. Intended to be for her family of teetotallers, she is now selling the custardy drink at Rs.1,000 per 1.5litres and the alcoholic version at Rs.1,500 per 1.5litres.
After launching the product only last year, she says “I didn’t really expect it to catch-on.” This year, she says there have already been orders for Dec 23 and onwards. You could place an order by giving her a ring on 0773842330.

Edible snow -globe
Think edible snow-globe. Sugar Shack has been around for a while and in the four years of baking Christmas goodies, this year their edible snow globe is turning a few heads. “It was my sister’s idea,” Aru de Silva says. After a few moments of contemplating how ‘cool’ the idea was she says the two of them started work on the product.

We think it’s a clever play on a simple cupcake. Given that desert in jam bottles is all the rage these days, the use of the jar is uniquely refreshing as opposed to the usual layered deserts. Also considerably cheaper than other deserts in a jar, an edible snow-globe will only set you back a doable Rs.100 per piece. It took a couple of days for the two to find the perfect cupcake-jam bottle ratio, she tells us, but eventually even the decorative frosting was tested to see which designs looked better in their alluring glass cases. The result is a delight to look at and devour, making it an ideal addition to any festive meal. Best part, it doubles as décor.

You could order yourself a couple of these by calling Sugar Shack on 0777711718.
