The importance of English
English is an international language.
We learn English as a second language in our country. English is a compulsory subject in our country.
Learning English provides many opportunities for jobs. Sri Lankans needs English to pursue their higher education because many books are written in English. Children who are fluent in English can find jobs easily.
We must learn English. We should read many English books. We should speak in English with our friends. Many children do not like to learn English because they think it is a difficult subject.
I should say English is an easy subject to learn.

The coconut tree
The coconut tree is a tall tree. It grows well in the coastal areas.
It is a useful tree.
We use coconut to make food. Coconut oil is used to cook. It is good for our hair. Coconut shells are used to make beautiful things. We use the timber to make furniture and roofs.
It is an export crop in Sri Lanka. There are many coconut trees in gardens.

A bicycle speaks
My name is Yamaha Mountain Bike. I was made in Japan.
I’m made out of rubber and steel.
I’m white and black in colour.
When the factory owner sent me to Sri Lanka, I saw that Sri Lanka has an endless beauty. I landed in Colombo port and they sent me to Negombo Cycle Bazaar. I saw most of my friends whom I saw in Japan, in this shop.
Then suddenly, a lady came to the shop. She was looking at all my friends. Then she came to me.
She saw my beautiful outfit and she saw that I’m
eco-friendly. She told the shop owner, “I want to buy this beautiful bike, and here’s Rs. 25,000’’.
Then the shop owner put me into a box and I went to the girl’s house. When she opened the box, the little girl screamed with happiness. She is a little chubby. So she is using me to do exercises. I help her to be healthy. She protects me. I love her so much. And she loves me too.

My favourite author

My favourite author is Adam Blade. He’s a very famous author. He was born in Kent, England.
His parents were History teachers’.
His hobby is playing football.
He liked to imagine and write about battles and warriors. So he thought to write the book called ‘Beast Quest’. He invented two characters. They are Tom and Elena. It is an adventurous book. There are 14 series in the Beast Quest books. This year I have only six books for now. They are Epos, Claw, Kaymon, Hellion, Vigrash and Torno. On the back page there are four free collector cards.
He has written some Special Bumper editions. They are, Avantia, Sea Quest and Master of Destiny.
I like to read all these books.
It takes me to another world. So for this holiday you should all start to read the Beast Quest books.

Waiting for Christmas

When my eyes are heavy with slumber
I hear the caroling songs
I jump out of bed
and go down the stairs

I open the door
I see snow!
Christmas lights
are lit near my door..

A Christmas tree
is standing near the key
Santa Claus
has a gift for me

I see a box
with my name
Wrapped in pink
and a ribbon in red

I open my gift
and look inside
A doll in blue
is ready to slide

My friend outside
is calling to me
“Come and play
Thirandie!”

We run outside
and take some snow
make snow angels
and a man of snow

I wish on a star
Oh! Bright star
I wish Christmas
will last forever!

Good Manners

‘Manners make a Man’, is a true saying. By manners we mean good habits and a good discipline.
Good manners come naturally to
a man who s in a well-mannered and a good society.
Good manners are very necessary for progress in life. They help a man to win the favour and confidence of others. Good manners are a sure passport to success in life.
Good manners are learnt early in life. A child born in a cultured family will learn to be respectful to others because he will see his elders behaving gently. A child born into an uncultured family will be disrespectful because he sees his elders behaving badly towards others.
Good manners must be taught from childhood.
