The Lanka Mahila Samiti’s annual handicraft sale and exhibition will be held on December 2 at the Lionel Wendt Gallery from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

A variety of attractive handicrafts, produced by members of the rural Mahila Samitis in villages in 16 districts of the island will be on display. Fine crochet and beeralu lace, cushions with traditional Sinhala embroidery, sleeping mats, sewing boxes, hambili for coins, baskets of various kinds, table mats and Dumbara wall hangings will be among the items on sale.

There will also be beautifully smocked children’s frocks, night dress sets and batik garments and table cloths.

All these would make ideal Christmas gifts or special gifts for personal use. The Lanka Mahila Samiti works to support the efforts of rural women while also preserving traditional handicrafts and has its sales centre at 391, Thimbrigasyaya Road, Colombo 5.
