To celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations between Austria and Sri Lanka, the Austrian Embassy in New Delhi together with the Austrian Consulate in Colombo is presenting a performance by renowned pianist Albert Sassman. The classical music piano recital will be held at the Ladies’ College Hall on December 8 from 7 to 8 p.m.

Albert Sassmann: A show to mark 60 years of diplomatic relations between Austria and Sri Lanka

Entry will be limited to pass holders only. Passes will be issued free of charge and could be collected at the reception of Car Mart Limited at 424, Union Place, Colombo 2.

Albert Sassmann was born in Austria in the city of Linz which is known for its culture of vibrant, high quality concert life. He studied piano at the Bruckner Conservatory Linz, and at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Hans Kann and Peter Efler, where he graduated with a Masters Degree with honours. He then received the ARCM-Diploma with honours at the Royal College of Music London. He received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Music Academy “Gheorghe Dima” Cluj-Napoca. He has also worked extensively with international artists including Tatiana Nikolaeva and Jacob Lateiner.

Specialising in the repertoire of the Viennese Classic and French Impressionism, Sassmann has collected awards and prizes at piano competitions both national and international. Apart from radio and television appearances he has also recorded three CDs and regularly performs as both a soloist and chamber musician in Austria, Germany, Poland , France, Italy, Czech Republic, Hungary, Belgium, Russia, also in India, China, Australia and New Zealand, and in Canada, Washington DC, New York, and San Francisco.

The primary focus of the concert is on chamber music by Mozart, but compositions by Friedrich Cerha, Anton Webern and Schubert are also on the programme.
