Russian musicians star in SOSL Premiere concert
View(s):Two eminent Russian musicians will perform with the Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka at the SOSL Premiere Concert on November 1 at the Ladies’ College Hall at 7 p.m.

The concert will commence with Weber’s overture to Oberon, which was composed in the three days prior to the premiere of his opera, Oberon. He has woven together many themes of this opera in this masterful overture, which is considered a staple of the orchestral repertory.
Prize-winning pianist Maxim Puryzhinskiy performs Schumann’s only piano concerto, described as a work of “passion, beauty and audacity”.Clara Schumann, Robert Schumann wife, was its first soloist. concerto, though not composed as a showpiece “bravura” piece for a virtuoso pianist, is one of the most popular of its genre.
Tchaikovsky’s sixth and final symphony was performed, under his baton, a few days prior to his untimely death. Its title of “Pathetique” adds to the mystique of the composer’s work. The composer wrote of his final work “I certainly regard it as easily the best—and especially the most ‘sincere’—of all my works, and I love it as I have never before loved one of my musical offspring”.
