Minimal modern chic on the beach

Salty air and the sound of waves tease anyone at the entrance of Taprobana in Wadduwa. The minimal décor of the porch-a cement shaded structure is the first thing one notices when stepping in to the premises. Substituting the general lounge-music common in hotel lobbies the sound of waves and the scent of the ocean lures a guest inside.

Minimal modern chic is the general vibe of the property managed by the Asia Leisure Group and a capacity of only 27 rooms suggests a slightly more private, exclusivity for their guests. Tamarind Hill Galle, the River House in Balapitiya and Shinagawa Beach also in Balapitiya are a few other places Asia Leisure has put its spin on and Taprobana with its open white spaces and minimalistic charm is their latest addition.

Overall an ideal location for relaxing, event spaces too come as part of the deal of this newest addition to the coastal hotels of the region. The Glow Ballroom, for the slightly more dressy events to just cocktails by the beach at sunset are now a possibility in this location. The main restaurant, Salt, comes with a view of the pool and can dish out global flavours from the local chicken curry to a fresh, light sushi roll.

Taprobana was opened last month.
