The liquidator G.K.Sudath Kumar of Touchwood Investments PLC, has sent what he calls a “clarification” with reference to the article published in the Business Times on October 19 under the above heading. His letter said:

“All plantations belonging to the said company currently being wound up are controlled by the liquidator and we are in the process of ensuring the safety and maintenance of the said plantations. The maintenance of the said plantations has not been handed over to a third party/ company. All estates are under the direct purview of the court appointed liquidator.

I also wish to place on record that I have held no meeting or discussion with any representative of JAT holdings for the purpose of handing over the maintenance of certain estates. The said article had quoted, inter-alia- my name as having held discussions with the said company.”

BT reporter responds:

While Mr. Sudath Kumar may not have had a (separate) meeting or discussion with JAT Holdings, their lawyers had been present at the October 3 meeting (called by Mr. Kumar) along with all other stakeholders. In fact, these lawyers identified themselves to Mr. Kumar as representing JAT Holdings, according to, G.S. Lakshan Dias, lawyer and Coordinator of the Sri Lanka Touchwood Stakeholders Association, who was himself present at the meeting.
