Japan which played a major role to popularise television in Sri Lanka by supporting the founding of Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation has taken the initiative to upgrade its technology from the analogue technology to digitalisation.

Japan’s (ISBB-T) technology would be utilized for the transition from analog broadcasting System to digitalization. This will help Sri Lanka to upgrade its television to international standards while promoting the use of digital technology everywhere.

With digitalization the viewers will be able to get a better picture and sound quality and a wide choice of channels and programmes for users while contributing to reduce the operating costs and the transmission costs of television broadcasting.

The signing of loan agreement was done by Dr. P.B. Jayasundera, Secretary, Ministry of Finance and Planning and Mr. Kiyoshi Amada, Chief Representative of the JICA Sri Lanka Office on behalf of the two countries.
