Leo Burnett completes Second Masterclass Programme for industry interns

Leo Burnett Solutions Inc (LBSI), the local office of the global advertising network Leo Burnett Worldwide, recently completed the second Leo Burnett Masterclass programme which is designed to provide young undergraduates with an opportunity to gain exposure into the marketing communications industry.

“At present, the marketing communications industry is challenged to attract fresh talent into the diverse roles available in the industry. Today, advertising in particular and the marketing communications field in general are less preferred career options. Although this generation is aware of advertising as a career they are not actually aware of the diverse opportunities available in the industry. They are also unfamiliar with the type of knowledge, learning and skills required for these diverse roles,” a Leo Burnett media release said.

The Leo Burnett Masterclass was established in 2013 where 14 interns graduated from the programme after an intense five-week internship. This year, from a wide cross section of applicants, 15 young people from varied backgrounds and concentrations of study, were selected for the Leo Burnett Masterclass 2014.

This year’s programme also included a greater variety of industry partners which provided the applicants with exposure into the diverse opportunities available within the marketing communications industry.

The group of 15 interns comprising undergraduates from many prestigious institutions including the University of Wales, the Chartered Institute of Marketing, the Open University of Sri Lanka, Imperial College, the University of Wales, the University of Nottingham and the University of London, spent five weeks in a cross functional internship programme tailored to suit their individual interests.
