Ramya de Livera Perera returns as a soloist in a Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka concert when she performs the Warsaw Concerto at the Music from the Movies Concert on September 7 at the Ladies’ College hall.

This musical extravaganza will present a wide variety of legendary film scores, which will appeal to movie fans of all ages. Tunes that will forever be linked in your memory with characters like James Bond and the Gladiator, also sci-fi stories like Star Wars and Mission Impossible will be performed along with the songs from the feel-good movies ‘Mamma Mia!’ and ‘The Sound of Music’.

The rousing sounds from the acclaimed musical Chicago and the ‘toe tapping’ Dam Busters March as well as the nostalgic strains of the Adagio from Spartacus are on the programme.

The Ladies’ College choir, with cameo appearances by soloists Ashanthi de Alwis, Devashri de Silva, Amandhi Caldera and Thivanthi Perera, will join the orchestra in the much loved music of Abba in Mamma Mia! and the Sound of Music.

Conducted by Dushyanthi Perera, the SOSL presents this inaugural movie theme concert as a benefit for Ladies’ College, which has been the home of the orchestra since its inception.

A graduate of the Royal Academy of Music and a recipient of the Hon R.A.M awarded by the Royal Academy of Music in 2002, Ramya has been soloist with the SOSL at numerous concerts. She is also a much -loved teacher, who has nurtured many talented youngsters to reach for greater heights in piano. Many of her students have gone on to win prestigious awards at the Royal & Trinity Boards of Music examinations and have also performed as soloists with the SOSL. Ramya also plays in the first violin section of the SOSL. She has been the leader of the orchestra at many concerts.
