Technology, Research and Atomic Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka will launch his book, “Power and Power,” on Tuesday at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute.

Champika Ranawaka

This is the first book to descriptively explain nuclear energy in Sinhala, Minister Ranawaka said at a news conference held at the Ministry auditorium last Friday.

People today consume 125 times more energy than any other time in history, the Minister further explained, saying his book discusses for how long this trend would be able to contine.

“There’s a dangerous drought situation today,” he said.

“It’ll get even more dangerous in the future. This book explains the environmental crisis using a large bank of world-class environmental data obtained when I was the president of the Vienna Convention as the Minister of Environment.”

Consisting of 319 pages, and two sections with 10 chapters each, the book highlights how the world would be “once it runs out of oil, gas and coal.

The book also dedicates one chapter to discussing the development of the Chinese economy that is rarely written about or paid attention to in Sinhala, he said.
