Thangarajah triumphs over Athukorala in men’s final
Top seed Dineshkanthan Thangarajah, the men’s top seed, was stretched to four sets by bottom seed Sankha Athukorala before crowning himself the winner of the Men’s Open Singles at the 99th Super ‘A’ Grade Colombo Championships conducted by the Sri Lanka Tenniis Association (SLTA) at Green Path yesterday.
Thangarajah took the first set 6/4, but Athukorala came back to win the second 5/7. However, Thangarajah dominated the next two sets 6/3, 6/2 to emerge the ultimate winner.

In the Boys Under-18 Singles category, unseeded Akila Vimukthi pulled off an upset win beating sixth seed Shevinda Thilakaratne in two straight sets.
The tournament will be continued at the same venue today commencing at 9.00am.
