The Sri Lanka – Malaysia Business Council of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce is focusing on encouraging more joint ventures to take place between Sri Lankan and Malaysian firms, the council has said.

Ms. Nilrukshi De Silva, who was re-elected as the President of the SLMBC for a second successive year, during the Council’s AGM held recently said towards making this happen, the Council will start several initiatives during the upcoming year, including establishing more match making events, exchanging of information on trade and investment, etc.

In the meantime, during the 20th AGM of the Council, Keerthi Jayasuriya, Chairman/ CEO, International Scholar Educational Service Pvt Ltd and Aashiq Lafir, Executive Director- Finance, United Motors Lanka PLC were appointed as Vice Presidents, respectively.
Azmi Zainuddin, High Commissioner for Malaysia in Sri Lanka and Chief Guest, in his speech stated that trade between the two countries last year stood at US$661.5 million with Malaysia’s exports to Sri Lanka amounting to $573.99 million while Sri Lanka’s exports to Malaysia was registered at $87.52 million.

“I am confident that there is still a lot of room for expansion in our trade relationship,” he said.
